Suranjpur Bird Sanctuary is a small sliver of Blue & Green land amongst the tall & still rising landscape of Greater NOIDA. This protected & maintained lake hosts a large population of birds & I have even seen a couple Nilgais roaming here, but intermittently SBS plays BnB to huge flocks of migratory birds. While I am possible the best fellow passenger to have during jungle safaris, I'm no good for bird watching. So I decided to get more knowledgeable about our avian friends. I started joining WWF's bird watching tours.
When I chanced upon Suranjur Bird Sanctuary, I was blow away by my own ignorance. Not only did I live for a couple of years within 9kms of the lake, I used to frequently take the road which is adjacent to the lake's boundary & yet, I did not know about it.
So what I did was, I started visiting the place more & more. I took a lot of photographs that I put out in the public space & happy to say, they have been used by many mediums. For eg, the Sarus Crane pair flying in front of construction was the cover image of Sanctuary Asia magazine. I organised a lot of friendly visits there, with everyone praising the place in their online presences, thereby pulling more eyes to this tiny, flat, sliver of blue & green in an otherwise rising forest of bricks.
